Profile

He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Faculty of Environmental Design, King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Saudi Arabia. His teaching experience goes back to 1987: Scientific Assistant (1987-1993), Lecturer (1993-1999), Assistant Professor (1999-2007), and Associate Professor (2007-present).

He is a specialist of Computer Applications in Architecture, Urban Design and Urban Planning. Since 1999 he has taught many courses of Computer Applications in Architecture, Urban Design and Urban Planning for undergraduate students as well as postgraduate students. He has many research papers that have sound results in the field of Computer Applications in Architecture and Urban Design. Also, He has a professional experience with web programming. He developed many static and dynamic websites in particular with the field of Archiving and Documenting of Architectural and Urban Heritage. 

He is an expert (in using and teaching) of different software packages and programming tools mainly including: Computer-Aided Design packages (CAD) such as AutoCAD, and 3D Studio MAX; GIS package such as (Esri) Arc Map; Web Design packages and Programming Tools such as HTML, FrontPage, Adobe Photoshop, Flash MX, Microsoft Access, SQL Server, ASP (Active Server Pages), Microsoft Visual InterDev; Statistical packages such as SPSS, and Statistica; and Word writing, Excel sheets operations  and PowerPoint presentations using Microsoft Office.

Since 2004 and until present, he has in charge of many administrative duties related to the field of Computer Applications. He is the Manager of "Information Technology Unit" and the Project Manager of "eCollege Project" in the Faculty of Environmental Design- King Abdul Aziz University (KAU), Jeddah- Saudi Arabia (2005- present). Also, He is a member of "Steering Committee of eCollege Project" in the Faculty of Environmental Design- KAU (2008- present). He was the Manager of the "Internet Unit of Minia University" and a Member of the "Minia University Computer Center Board", Egypt (2004- 2005). 

He has distinguished himself in the fields of Architecture, Urban Design, and Urban Planning.  He has implemented many practical projects and executed many successful ones in Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

Research Interests

I am interested in a wide range of Computer Applications in the fields of Architecture and Urban Design, in particular with the following topics:
* Exploring and testing the significance of different computer applications in enhancing students' skills and capabilities of design.
* Designing, applying and testing training programs and teaching courses of computer applications.
* Using eLearning innovations and the new digital media for delivering "teaching" and "learning" through the Internet, in particular with the following topics:
o Virtual Design Studio.
o Collaboration.
o On Demand Learning.
o Blended Learning.
o Synchronous/Asynchronous Learning.
o eCollege as an integrated solution.
* Archiving and documenting the Architectural and Urban Heritage using web-based database technologies. 
* Urban Diagnosis using the Quantitative Methods and GIS.
